I thought I was hitting a slump since I’m way behind in catching up to the most recent episodes of Rebel – which is on the brink of being a dropped drama. I keep falling asleep trying to watch the second episode of Tunnel, and I fell asleep halfway through the first episode of Chicago Typewriter. I chalked it up to the seasons changing since I mostly get depressed during Spring/Summer. Now that Strong Woman Do Bong Soon ended, I’m finding myself worried that I won’t have a show to carry me through at least one season. That is until I started to watch Man to Man. I thought for sure that I’d fall asleep since I’ve been sleeping way earlier than usual, but to my surprise, I stayed up during the entire show, and started to work on my draft for this post, and create fan arts.
I like how the background of our main characters were set up. We were given their intros as to who they are, but are still kept in the dark as to how they are related before Kim Seol Woo walked into their lives. Already in the first episode, if any of these characters were autonomous to each other, Seol Woo just connected them back in.
It is obvious that I took a liking into Park Hae Jin’s character, Kim Seol Woo. I mean, who wouldn’t favor a secret agent? I was given the impression that he just wants to do his job, and do it correctly regardless of how long it takes, or what the punishment would be if he breaks protocol. Image wise, they’re trying to portray him as blend of James Bond/Jason Bourne, but I’m hoping that this character will have its own unique traits. There’s room for this character to grow.
I’m most definitely looking forward to Yeon Jung Hoon’s character, Mo Seung Jae. I’m curious to see if he will be given enough screen time to give justice to his evil chaebol image who will do anything to bring his main rival down, which happens to be his wife’s ex, and a new enemy in Seol Woo.
Chae Jung Ahn as Song Mi Eun. I know she has a past with Park Sung Woong’s character, Yeon Woon Gwang – and it seemed pretty serious since she obviously still gets to him, and that she knows how to get to him. What makes it really interesting is that Mo Seung Jae seems to be in “control”[?] of Do Ha’s celebrity status somehow, or is it Mi Eun?. I don’t know to what extent exactly, but this would be a love triangle that I’d be interested in.
As soon as I saw Jang Hyun Sung, I immediately wondered if he’ll turn out to be a bad guy midway through the show. If so, this show is going to be really fun. I’m looking forward to a plot twist. IF it’s there for this character. Also, how is he connected to Mi Eun? It would be fun if she’s still an active agent, wouldn’t it?
I haven’t connected with Park Sung Woon’s character – Yeon Woon Gwang yet. I got the diva vibe, which did not sit well with me. I don’t like divas and I didn’t appreciate his actions that he blamed Yang Sand Shik for being late, and then stuck his tounge out at him in the end, that he got away with it. To me, that’s workplace bullying. That’s one of the many reasons I don’t have cable, because I don’t like wasting my time watching “reality” shows of celebs, socialites, and wannabes showing us one thing but really acting another when the camera is off. That’s just the first episode, and part of how his character was written. I’m sure I’ll be able to learn more about his history of being a stunt man to becoming an action star, how he worked from the ground up to be where he’s at right now. But, let’s not forget that his character is just part of Seol Woo’s mission to get information, and access to one of the items he needs to retrieve. I kind of feel sad the day he finds out that he’s being used in a covert mission, at the same time curious, if he’s going to be of any help since he’s a stunt man after all.
Speaking of missions, I don’t see Kim Min Jung’s character, Cha Do Ha as the “woman” in Seol Woo’s assignment. Honestly, I prefer for him not to have a love line in this show. Like I mentioned earlier I’m more invested in the love triangle between Do Ha, Mi Eun, and Seung Jae. Having two love lines is a bit too much for 16 episodes. But, I’m not the writer so I’ll watch what’s given to me, I’ll just either rant about it here, or choose to not write about it.
Given that I have screencaps and a customized banner for this post, it is safe to say that I will continue to watch this series. I’ll also be making fan arts for this show and will post them separately.
